How PT-141 differs from oral ED pills
Oral medications such as sildenafil and tadalafil work by increasing blood flow to the penis in response to arousal. PT-141 (bremelanotide) works differently: it acts on melanocortin receptors in the nervous system that are involved in sexual desire and arousal. That makes it an option some providers consider when blood-flow medications are not suitable or have not worked, and it is prescribed for both men and women.
