GLP-1 Weight Loss
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) weight loss medications are a class of drugs that help control blood sugar levels and support weight loss. They work by mimicking the effects of the GLP-1 hormone, which regulates appetite and insulin secretion.
GLP-1 medications help reduce appetite, increase feelings of fullness, and slow down the emptying of the stomach. This leads to a lower calorie intake, aiding in weight loss.
Combining GLP-1 drugs with improved nutrition, increased physical activity, reduced sedentary behavior, stress management and other healthy habit changes. Comprehensive lifestyle modification enhances GLP-1 efficacy and helps sustain results long-term.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. These side effects usually decrease over time as your body adjusts to the medication. It is important to discuss any side effects with your healthcare provider. As with any medication, GLP-1 drugs have potential risks and adverse effects that must be considered before initiating treatment.
Nausea — seen in up to 40% of patients, especially when starting treatment. Generally resolves over days to weeks with dose escalation.
Diarrhea — reported by roughly 12–15% of people starting GLP-1 drugs. Also tends to diminish over time.
Vomiting — around 10% experience vomiting when initiating. Usually improves with dose titration.
Abdominal pain — seen in up to 10% but typically resolves within days of treatment.
Decreased appetite — this is expected. GLP-1 medications suppress appetite, but appetite usually normalizes over longer-term use in most patients.
Fatigue — reported by some patients when beginning treatment, lasting days to weeks.
Gallbladder disease — increased risk of cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. Severe abdominal pain warrants evaluation.
Acute pancreatitis — rare cases reported. Patients should seek care for severe persistent abdominal pain.
Kidney injury — it is recommended to monitor renal function for at-risk individuals.
Hypoglycemia — this is only a risk in patients also taking insulin or sulfonylureas.
Hypersensitivity — allergic reactions in rare cases.
Suicidal ideation — increased risk of mood changes. Always alert health care providers about new or worsening mental health concerns.
Thyroid cancer — it is unknown if GLP-1s increase risk.
We recommend you discontinue GLP-1 drugs and contact a healthcare professional immediately if issues are severe or persistent.
Weight loss results can vary, but many people start to see changes within the first few weeks of treatment. Significant weight loss may take several months of consistent use combined with lifestyle changes. Immediate results are not expected as these medications take time and effort.
GLP-1 medications can be part of a long-term weight management plan, especially when combined with healthy lifestyle changes like improved nutrition, increased physical activity, and stress management. Long-term use can help maintain weight loss, but after weight loss goals have been reached it is possible to continue to maintain weight with lifestyle modifications.
Yes, combining GLP-1 medications with a comprehensive lifestyle modification program—such as better nutrition, increased physical activity, reduced sedentary behavior, and stress management—can enhance their effectiveness and help sustain results over the long term. It is not recommended to combine GLP-1 medications with other weight loss medications.
There is a possibility of weight regain if GLP-1 medications are discontinued, especially if healthy lifestyle habits are not maintained. It's important to discuss any plans to stop medication with your healthcare provider and create a plan to stop your medication.
While on GLP-1 medications, it is recommended to follow a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Reducing the intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and high-fat foods can further support weight loss efforts. The general rule of "less calories" and "moving more" is beneficial.
We recommend a diet and weight loss coach. Coaching can provide personalized guidance and support to help you make and sustain necessary behavior changes. This can include setting realistic goals, developing healthy habits, and providing motivation and accountability.

Absolutely! All of our treatment plans include access to licensed healthcare providers. You can message your provider directly through your patient portal, and for certain conditions, we offer video consultations. Our providers typically respond within 24 hours on business days.
Our network includes board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants licensed in all 50 states. All providers undergo rigorous credentialing and must maintain active licenses and malpractice insurance. You can view your assigned provider's credentials in your patient portal.
After completing your health intake questionnaire, a licensed provider reviews your information within 24-48 hours. They'll evaluate your health history, current medications, and goals to determine if treatment is right for you. If approved, your prescription is sent directly to our pharmacy partner.
Our functional medicine approach covers weight management (GLP-1 medications), hormone optimization (TRT for men, HRT for women), sexual health (ED treatment), metabolic health, and general wellness. Each treatment program is personalized based on your specific health needs and goals.
Functional medicine is a whole-person, root-cause approach to healthcare. Rather than simply treating symptoms, our functional medicine physicians look at your unique biology, lifestyle, and health history to identify and address the underlying causes of health issues. This approach allows us to create personalized treatment plans that promote lasting wellness.
Traditional medicine often focuses on managing symptoms with standardized treatments. Functional medicine, on the other hand, seeks to understand why those symptoms exist in the first place. Our functional medicine specialists spend more time with each patient, use advanced diagnostics, and create individualized protocols that may include prescription medications, peptide therapies, hormone optimization, and lifestyle modifications working together for optimal results.
Medications
All compounded medications are prepared by licensed 503A and 503B pharmacies that are FDA-registered and state-licensed. These pharmacies follow strict quality control standards, including sterility testing and potency verification. We only partner with pharmacies that meet our rigorous quality requirements.
It's best not to. After the expiration date, a drug's potency can decline and, in rare cases, its safety can change. For reliable results, dispose of expired medications per pharmacy guidelines and request a new supply. Your provider can help you get a refill before your current supply expires.
We prescribe FDA-approved medications whenever possible. For compounded medications, while the final compound isn't FDA-approved (compounded medications by definition are not), the active ingredients are FDA-approved and the compounding pharmacies are FDA-registered and follow strict federal and state guidelines.
Contact your healthcare provider immediately through your patient portal if you experience any concerning side effects. For severe reactions, seek emergency medical care. Our providers are available to adjust dosages or recommend alternative treatments based on your response.
